The Last Lion - Alone William Manchester
In the second installment of William Manchester's Churchill trilogy Churchill tries to convince the British government that appeasement is not the way to deal with Hitler. His warnings to Parliament are scorned and he spends a great many years politically alone, until the Nazis take over Austria and parts of Czechoslovakia, and invade Poland in 1939. To me this is the most important of the three volume set; Churchill's warnings are vindicated and the British must finally deal with Hitler, and the ramifications of their refusal to acknowledge the danger he poses to Britain and to the rest of Europe.
