He had to go back to England in January 1939, but once there he advertised in the newspapers for foster families for the young Jewish children. Vera's grandmother heard that an Englishman was helping children leave and asked him to take Vera. She got on a train with 75 other children; it took three days and nights to get to London. Six hundred and sixty nine children were able to be saved before the borders were closed. In the 1980s, Nicholas Winton was surprised with a gathering of people he had saved so long before.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Peter Sis","offers":[{"title":"New \/ Hardback","offer_id":49034256777401,"sku":null,"price":18.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0788\/5104\/7609\/files\/NickyandVera.jpg?v=1787925282","url":"https:\/\/thebookvanonline.com\/products\/nicky-vera","provider":"The Book Van Online","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
